We receive this question a lot: can I use more than one Elgato capture card at the same time? With Game Capture HD60 S, HD60 Pro, 4K60 Pro and Cam Link, the answer is yes.
The latest version of Game Capture software (version 3.7), as well as 4K Capture Utility, install a new driver that enables multi-device support within 3rd party software such as OBS Studio, XSplit and others.
Which devices support multi-device?
- Cam Link
- Game Capture HD60 S
- Game Capture HD60 Pro
- Game Capture 4K60 Pro
When adding a new video capture device in OBS Studio for example, you will now see each device listed and numbered. You can mix and match any of these devices, as many as your computer can support (given USB ports, PCIe ports and available bandwidth).
Now for some settings and recommendations to look out for
When using multiple devices at the same time, do not use the “Game Capture HD” video source. This will take control of the Elgato capture devices and you won't be able to use more than one at a time. Instead, use the new devices that will appear as Game Capture HD60 Pro (Video)(#01).
When using multiple USB capture device at the same time, such as HD60 S and Cam Link, if you encounter video freezing or stutter, you may be overloading your PC’s USB bandwidth. Try moving the devices between different USB ports until you find a setup that works. We recommend not using two adjacent USB ports, as they will share bandwidth.
The multi-device driver is more barebones, so some additional configuration is needed. Here are the recommended settings for using Elgato capture devices in OBS Studio. These settings also apply to other software.
- Resolution/FPS: Custom
- Resolution: Match input
- FPS: Match device input
- Video format:
- Cam Link: YUY2
- HD60 S: YUY2
- HD60 Pro: YV12
- 4K60 Pro: YV12
- YUV Color Range: Leave on default
- YUV Color Space: Leave on default
- Buffering: Disable
- Audio output mode: Set as needed, default is Stream Only
- Use Custom Audio Device: Check this box
- Audio Device: Match the video device and number
That's it for settings. When using other software, try to match these settings as close as possible.
